Frequently asked questions and answers:
1. Can colored smart light bulb work with 5Ghz Wifi?
- No, MagicLight smart LED light bulbs only work with 2.4Ghz or dual band wifi router.
2. Do these smart bulbs have daylight, natural white, purewhite and warm white color?
- Yes, MagicLight Alexa light bulbs have full white colors (2700k-6500k) and RGB colors, every color is stepless dimmable.
3. Do these colored smart bulbs work with dimmer switch?
- At present, almost all smart light bulbs on the market do not theoretically support any dimmer switches, using a dimmer switch will easily cause the light to flicker or even lose connection to the APP. We recommend you use the APP/Alexa/Google Assistant to set 1-100% dimming.
- But if the dimmer switch exists and is hard to remove, please set the switch to 100% brightness to reduce interference to the smart bulb.
4. What is the working voltage for these smart light bulbs?
- These wifi light bulbs work for USA100-120V only, don't work with 220V.

What do you get?:
-A small white package that a typical bulb would come in. It has some of the listing's features and the instructions for finding and downloading the app.
- The bulb. About the size of a normal incandescent bulb. This allows it be installed in all normal locations. The bulb's fins are there to transfer heat I believe.
Setup:
-Setup was pretty straight forward. Screw the bulb in. Install the correct app (there are several led bulb controllers. The instructions tell you which one). Make sure the light switch is on. Open the app. It will search over bluetooth and add the bulb. Close the app. For some reason it insists that you then turn the light switch on and then immediately back on. Reopen the app. Voilà, your new bulb is connected.
Using the App:
-Here's what's interesting and probably these LED bulbs' worst feature. They all basically have the same crappy app. I'm assuming all these Smart LED bulbs are just different rebranding versions with perhaps some minor differences or improvements. However, they all have similar if not the same app (just with a different name). They all function similarly and look nearly identical. I'm assuming they made it in a way that it only connects with their brand of bulbs. Besides the point. The app offers several features, most of which you probably won't use (Strobe, flicker. Candle might be useful at time). I want an app that I can easily open to turn my light on and off and change the color and brightness quickly. This is possible for the most part, but about 5% of the time there's a hiccup. The app can't find the bulb, doesn't remember the bulb and you have to reinstall it, or just force closing. I will say however, performance has been much better since their latest app update. Additionally, the app itself isn't black as the listing's image shows. I WISH IT WAS. Gosh, especially at night, you don't want a bright white screen when trying to mess with the bulb's settings.
-Important: I wish there was a widget or quick way to turn the bulb on/off from the home or lock screen. That would make this 10 times more useful and enjoyable.
-Timer: Haven't played with it yet to see how usable it is.
- Choose your color: You can easily select the color you wish by sliding a color wheel. You can save 3 custom colors to switch to at any time. Change brightness using the slider.
Performance:
-Fantastic concept. Really can help change the mood of the room, especially if you had multiple ones.
-Brightness: Weak point in my opinion. For me, it's not bright enough, unless you get more I figure. I plan on trying the 10 watt in hopes of a brighter and better experience. I only have one bulb fixture above my desk. I need this bulb to be brighter. Because of this, playing with the dimming feature doesn't seem to make much of a difference until you get really low.
-Colors: The colors are neat. Really enjoyable over plain white. Speaking of white. This can't really do plain white. I miss that color at times. It can do a warm yellow, but that's about the closest you'll get. Sometimes you need a bright white. This lacks that unfortunately.
-Hissing: I tend to avoid certain colors because of a hissing noise it makes. This varies from color and brightness. Sometimes the slightest change makes the hissing stop. It's pretty annoying though, especially when I have no background noise or music playing. Not a deal breaker though.
-Power consumption: Now this alone makes this bulb a worthy upgrade over your non-led bulb.
WIFI vs Bluetooth: Don't get Wifi
-Now, I have bluetooth. I intentionally avoided wifi, not just for cost. Think about how many devices are connected to your home wifi network. Think about all those times you've had a weak or dropped signal. Think about how frustrated you'd get if your bulbs couldn't all stay connected. Where is your God now? Don't do it. Stick with bluetooth, especially if you plan to get a lot. At least that has less interference and will be more reliable (in most cases).
Value:
-So you're getting an LED which can easily switch colors as you wish. It's offering you power consumption savings and giving you the value of color choice. The 7 watt lacks in brightness compared to the 60 watts it supposedly replaces. I want to try the 10 watt to see if that's the perfection option for me. It might be for you as well, especially if you just want to try one first.
Summary:
Overall this is a really cool LED bulb. It instantly helps improve the mood of the room, but not the brightness. For strict mood setters, this is a fantastic and affordable way to do so. If you want mood PLUS brightness, I'd suggest the 10 watt instead. The app is alright overall but has much room for improvement. I have several recommendations for them, yet I'm not sure how likely we'll ever see those changes. Again, all these Smart LED bluetooth bulbs seem to be pretty identical. You're most likely to have a similar experience with them all. Where they differ, however, is their product offerings (other bulbs to allow future upgrades on same group), their customer service, and price. I chose MAGIC LIGHT for all those reasons. They seem to have the widest product offerings, meaning I can easily add more variations of lights in the future. They have great customer reviews and assistance. And lastly, they have one of the lowest prices.
-For all of these reasons, I'd recommend choosing the Magic Light bulb sets. Just to have more freedom, get the 10 Watt.
I plan on reviewing more smart LED bulbs over time to compare them and see if any other good options exist. If Magic Light feels they can improve my situation or have any insight on how the app can be developed further, I'd be interested to hear from their team.
Thanks for reading my input. Hopefully this review helped you out!
The only negatives I have for this like are that unlike the hue when you set up custom color schemes the lights go from one color to black to the next color instead of going through the color gradient. It is not a huge deal but it is definitely a slight negative. Also, selecting the colors on the color wheels can be a bit difficult and it would be great if the html color codes were always an option and you could enter the color that way. It would also be great to have a "morning light" setting that used a slightly bluer light to wake you up and then an "evening light" setting that took all the blue out of the light and had a reddish/orange hue to help your body start to get into the sleep mode.
The other negative is that while you can use the app to control the lights across multiple devices. If the app is opened on one device you can not access the bulbs on another device. This might be an unsolvable bluetooth hardware restriction but it does give the Hue a slight leg up in that multiple devices can always access the lights since they are controlled over your wireless network.
Overall though, at a price point around $30 for bulb, the ease of installing and the fact that you do not need to have a wireless hub, I think this is a great bulb and would recommend it to anyone that wants to add a cool but also very functional and useful gadget to their home.
-------------
Finally, the longevity of these bulbs is always a concern when you are investing $30 for one bulb so I will try to update this every year to say if the bulb is still going strong or not.
All other 9 lights are still going strong.
The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is because the mobile app. It works great and links with Google home easily enough. The problem is that when setting up the bulbs, I always run into issues with the automatic setup process.
This is easily fixed by hitting set up manually and following those steps. They always work first time. Just seems weird the auto set up is so finicky.
Great bulbs though. Definitely recommend.
