We ordered two of these kits and interconnected them together with great results. The nice thing about these filters is that they are easily accessible (amazon, lowes, home depot, etc) and cheap when compared to the plate filters we use to utilize for our plate filtering system. Typically, pending on the alcohol product we are making, we utilize two different filters. In the first filter, we utilize a 5 micron filter (a 10 micron exterior wrapping with a 5 micron interior wrapping). In the second one, we utilize a 1 micron filter (a 5 micron exterior wrapping with a 1 micron interior wrapping). When filtering wines, we attach the fermenting container to a simple small magnet pump and drive it through the filters (after they are purged of oxygen). In the case of making a sparkling wine and/or beer, we like to utilize CO2 to push the liquid through the lines. In cases of dry wines, we found that the pump works great and it can be easily attached with a few simple adapters. In all cases, we purge the filters with CO2 (from our CO2 tanks) in order to reduce the amount of oxygenation. Also, when filling sparkling wines and/or beer bottles, we often utilize CO2 at 2psi to push the fluid through both filters with a bottle filler nozzle at the end. We have discovered this is the fastest method to filter our alcohol products while filling bottles. We were about to filter and bottle 61 bottles of sparkling wine in 12 minutes on our last attempt. Granted, we do own a champagne floor corker (which helps greatly), so with one person quickly tilting each bottle and the other person on corking, bottles are a breeze. The only things left to do is one last cleaning of the bottles and perhaps place PVC heat shrink capsules on top while labeling your elixir of life…lol.
In conclusion, we have owned different filtering systems (including a commercial plate filtering system) and ironically this system works better with no clogs, very little waste, inexpensive filters, and easy clean-up (again, unlike our plate filtering system). In truth, these filter kits are the same thing that my wife and I utilize for our house, they merely have a different name and keg attachments. As such, you could easily convert similar filter systems from your local hardware store to fit this product's same abilities. You will only have to buy the keg attachments separately (or other attachments as we utilized with our pump system of wines)
I would recommend this for the home brewer with a little experience.
The only bummer about this unit is that I use pin lock fittings and this uses ball lock (easy to change just had to purchase some fittings separately).
P.S. leaving feedback without actually using the item is pretty rude.
Multiple parts don't work. One of the metal fittings that connects the ball lock to the hose was defective and would not seal. Hoses are way too big for the ball lock fittings. One of the hose clamps (necessary due to hoses being too big) was broken and would not tighten. Need to order a new ball lock replacement and go to the hardware store to get a new hose clamp. What a hassle. Very disappointed.
Bar that, the product arrived on time and has everything I need, but just not the correct product for me.
Update- the same day I wrote this review I sent an email to the vendor via Amazon. I expressed the same concerns as in the review above. I received a response email the very next day apologizing for the missing infuser tube and I received one in the mail just a few days later. However, they didn't mention the missing filter and I don't believe they understood my concerns with the hose connectors. I noticed that have updated there product photo and it no longer depicts the hop infusion tube or Randall.
