Product Description

Replacement Steam Ring for Breville Espresso:

- BES250XL Cafe Venezia Espresso Machine
- BES820XL and BES830XL Die-Cast Programmable Espresso Machine
- ESP6SXL Cafe Modena Espresso Machine
- ESP8XL Cafe Roma Espresso Machine
- 800ESXL 800 Class Espresso Machine

The purpose of the Steam Ring is to create a seal to prevent steam or hot water from leaking from between the Filter Holder Assembly and the Thermal Block Assembly.
This part has a tendency to lose its ability to seal over time. It may be a good idea to order an extra one, to keep it on hand.

Installation pointers
First, it fits the 12-year old model Breville in the left and middle pictures. This is my second seal purchase and installation. The first one purchased directly from Breville 6 years ago, no problem; second, I had an issue which is the reason for this note and the 4-stars instead of 5. Second, you only need to deal with one screw during installation. If you remove the drip tray, there is plenty of room for the 4-size Allen key. The edges of the round filter fit nestled in the new seal. The rounded part of the seal towards the espresso maker. Tighten the screw with medium torque. I had a hard time turning the portafilter all the way. I took out the dual wall insert (I only make double espressos) and tried again; it worked 💪 After a few tries with the dual wall insert in place, I left the portafilter in tight without the dual wall insert for a few hours. I inserted the dual wall filter and tried again; it worked. I ran a double espresso cycle three times to create "wear and tear". I left the portafilter with the dual wall inserted overnight (as in the picture on the left). Presto!! Problem solved. If you look at the old seal (picture on the right) and compare with the new, you see why the new seal needs some prep. Good luck and enjoy 😉

5.0 out of 5 stars My Breville Cafe Roma IS Alive Again!
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2019
I was SO disappointed months ago; while trying to make espresso, as I do daily, and my Breville machine kept making worse and worse muddy espressos. Then one day it finally gave up and started spitting water out of the seal and burned my hand. It was VERY tricky to get up inside there, where that steam ring is, because there is only a short distance between the screw you have to remove, and the bottom of the drip tray. A screwdriver is often too long, when a long one is needed for torque, and the short screwdriver is difficult to use as the screw is really tight and one needs a long screwdriver.

Well, I managed to get it out, saw the cracked/split rubber seal and thought darn! I ordered a new one. It finally arrived yesterday. I carefully inserted it; then inserted the round metal screen disc/filter, then screwed in that difficult screw.

BUT IT STILL SQUIRTED all over! I was furious! UNTIL... I realized that the black housing which surrounds the area in which the coffee scoop, and the steam ring etc all go into, was LOSE!! I had to tighten it down, thereby making the space inside, ultimately, with less wiggle room. After doing THAT, I then stuck the handle in, and locked it into place and then tightness was PERFECT. NO MORE SPITTING!! Yay!

And for the first time in almost 3 months, I enjoyed a freshly ground, very frothy espresso. BOY oh BOY was it ever good; especially after that whole undesirable, yet eventually rewarding adventure. Best "18 Amazon bucks" I've ever spent. THANK YOU BREVILLE!

No problems so far. Brewd at least 50 espressos. Even left the machine on for a while making it very hot. Let's see how long it'll hold.
