Maintenance Tips
Your vehicle’s struts slowly deteriorate over time, though this wear is normally difficult to detect. Worn struts can also cause additional wear to other vehicle components. To maximize your vehicle’s ride comfort, it’s recommended to inspect your vehicle’s struts every year. Be sure to always refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for additional vehicle maintenance practices. Potential affected components may include ball joints and other suspension components, brakes, and tires. The following should be checked by a qualified technician:
- Leaking oil or wetness along the body of the shock or strut
- Broken mounts
- Broken, damaged, or missing mounting hardware
- Dented reservoir tube
- Bent or scratched piston rod
- Cupped tire wear
- Damaged spring seat, spring
FAQ
- Is there a difference between a shock and a strut? Yes. While shocks and struts perform a similar function, they vary greatly in their design. The major difference between shocks and struts is that a strut is a structural part of the vehicle’s suspension system, while a shock is not. A strut is also a crucial part of the vehicle’s steering system and greatly affects alignment angles. S
- hould I have my vehicle aligned after replacing my shocks or struts? You should have your vehicle aligned if you are replacing your vehicle’s struts. However, it’s not necessary to get your vehicle aligned when replacing your vehicle’s shocks unless there was a previous issue. D
- o I need different shocks or struts for front, rear, left, or right applications? Yes. It’s important to choose the correct shock or strut for your vehicle model and year, as well as for the location in the vehicle.
Product Description
ACDelco Specialty Air Lift Shocks are designed to help provide better handling for temporary situations, such as when a vehicle hauls a heavy load or tows a trailer. They have an adjustable air pressure, between 25 and 200 psi, and up to 1,100 lbs (per pair) of load-carrying capacity. Under loaded conditions, these shocks help maintain level vehicle height by adding or releasing air as needed, assisting in the stabilization of alignment angles, reducing other suspension component wear, improving handling, and reducing the risk of bottoming out. ACDelco Specialty Air Lift Shocks are ideal for temporary load hauling, including towing boats and trailers. Not to exceed vehicle GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Product does not increase payload.

The kit also includes a different spring for the compressor. I installed it and it definitely compensated for the larger struts but the ride was a little stiff for my liking. I put the original spring back in and it rides just soft enough to be comfortable but not firm enough to be bouncy. If you have a Cadillac don't even bother with the spring.
Great product, good price, would definitely buy again!
However, the 504-547 shocks kit does not exactly match the GM OEM rear shocks on our Buick and requires undisclosed additional mounting parts from AC-Delco. I found this out the hard way when I ordered and received the 504-547 kit from Amazon, attempted to replace our OEM rear shocks on the car, and discovered we did not have the complete set of parts needed to mount the new AC-Delco shocks.
To obtain the correct parts numbers and shocks kit numbers, I had to call the AC-Delco 800 number Customer Service telephone, give them the last eight digits of our Buick's VIN, and they explained by telephone exactly which AC-Delco matching kits we needed. At the present time, both AMAZON and AC-Delco do not disclose on their websites or in parts catalogs that additional shock parts or an additional kit specific to the Buick Park Avenue are required. The AC-Delco printed documentation included with the 504-547 kit made no mention that additional mounting parts or kits would be required and no vehicle cross-reference for mounting kits was provided. In fact, the AC-Delco Customer Service department claimed that Amazon is not an authorized AC-Delco parts dealer. They implied this fact could negatively affect any future AC-Delco warranty claims we may have for this 504-547 AC-Delco kit.
The AC-Delco Customer Service Dept told me the 504-547 replacement shocks kit requires the purchase of an AC-Delco 19210500 Shock Mounting Kit for the 2003 Buick Park Avenue. Most of the parts in the 19210500 Shock Mounting Kit seem to be already included in the 504-547 replacement shocks kit. However, the 192105400 kit's main parts are 2 brass air-shock valve stem adapters (not included with the 504-547 shocks kit) which enable the AC-Delco air shock valve stems to link correctly to the Buick's air line and shock adjustment compressor.
Unfortunately, these 2 small brass air-shock valve stem adapters from AC-Delco are very pricey and can easily cost over 1/2 the purchase price of a 504-547 replacement shocks kit. Amazon gave me a reasonable price adjustment on the 192105400 kit and shipping after I complained their AC-Delco 504-547 shocks kit listing was incomplete and possibly misleading because undisclosed additional mounting parts are required.
Installation time was roughly 1:30 hours, because I was carefully doing every step and making sure I am not messing anything up.
A note about the packaging, I got a kit (a pair of the shocks) and returned them and got two more and they had the same issue, there is an oil residue on the package, to a point were the cardboard material is torn, like it has absorbed a lot of oil, which made me think that they were faulty.
As it turned out, the air inlet is actually lubed a little and that oil is basically what I was seeing, nothing major or such.
The car's overall stability is much improved.
